Sunflower Oil Receives Positive Reviews

By June 8, 2015No Comments
Mandan, ND – Americans are learning about the health benefits of sunflower oil, as shown in the International Food Information Council Foundation’s 2015 Food and Health Survey. In that survey, sunflower oil received positive reviews: 56 percent of Americans rated sunflower oil as either “extremely healthful” or “somewhat healthful,” which is up from 49 percent in 2009.

“This is good news for the sunflower industry,” said John Sandbakken, Executive Director of the National Sunflower Association. “Sunflower oil is a heart-healthy option. In fact, researchers at Penn State have found that sunflower oil is even better for you than olive oil.”

Greenwald & Associates of Washington, D.C conducted the 2015 Food & Health Survey. The survey was conducted online from March 13 to March 26, 2015. It includes 1,007 Americans ages 18-80, and is weighted to represent the demographics of the United States. This is the tenth year the survey has been conducted. Sandbakken expects the news for sunflower oil to continue to improve.

“Sunflower oil is already healthy, but we are working to provide an even healthier option by moving the industry toward more high oleic oil production,” said Sandbakken. “High oleic sunflower oil gives products a longer shelf life and also lasts longer in a fryer than other oils. Its neutral taste is ideal for allowing the true flavors in products to come through. High oleic sunflower oil offers the optimal non-GMO, trans free oil solution.”
